71. Does destroying bacteria and yeasts equate to animal suffering?

Veganism specifically aims to avoid causing harm to sentient beings—those who possess the capacity to feel, experience emotions, and perceive their own lives. Bacteria and yeasts do not have a nervous system, a brain, or any biological structure enabling them to experience suffering. Killing a bacterium is therefore in no way comparable to killing a sentient animal.
