60. Since agricultural cultivation kills insects and wild animals, aren't vegans showing speciesism toward these species?

This confuses a voluntary action with involuntary harm. Deaths of wild animals or insects related to crops are unavoidable accidents of subsistence production, rather than intentional exploitation. Veganism seeks to reduce suffering as much as possible, and plant-based agriculture indirectly causes far fewer deaths than animal farming, which requires growing huge amounts of crops to feed animals before slaughtering them. Furthermore, it does not perpetuate the commodification of animals.
